A Letter From Our CEO:

Dear YMCA Members,

Thank you for being a member of the Sidney-Shelby County Family YMCA. As you consider how you can best care for your family and neighbors during this crisis, I would like for you to take a moment to consider how you might be able to support your community through your local YMCA.

As you are most likely aware, the YMCA is a Non-Profit Organization that is so much more than a gym or fitness facility. Our mission focuses our work within three core areas: Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility. This work is overseen by a local volunteer Board of Directors from throughout the Shelby County area and surrounding communities. Local YMCA’s are funded by local members and local donors. Your support of your local YMCA helps to keep your local Y and our Community strong.

The volunteer Board of Directors of the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA and I recognize that these are challenging times for us all, but I am writing to you today to ask you to “stay with us”, not as a fitness member, but as a Cause Driven Member that is partnering with us so that our YMCA can take on the challenging task of serving our local community as follows:

· We have converted our entire YMCA facility into a Pandemic Childcare Facility. This facility has received the approval of the State of Ohio to provide childcare for our community’s essential Health Care, Emergency Personnel, Law Enforcement and others like Grocery Store staff. In short it’s for all those who are working to protect and take care of the rest of us during these most challenging times. Our first day of operation is Thursday, March 26th. To learn more about these services or to enroll call us at 937-498-2273.

· Last week our full-time staff began the task of calling our Senior Members to check on them and to see if they need assistance in picking up groceries, medications, etc. Our phone calls have been very well received and we have many more calls to make. It’s part of our commitment to staying connected with you, our members.

· We have launched a new option on Face book page for members to participate in called the “Virtual YMCA”. We have over 18 YMCA branded workouts being produced weekly for members to participate in led by our very own wonderful Wellness Instructors on a special Sidney YMCA Group Exercise page. Simply click here to join. We also are creating videos for kids loaded with crafts, exercise routines and games, with more being added daily. Keep an eye on our Facebook Page for all these great additions at:

Your support of your local YMCA is more important than ever! We are asking that you “Stay with Us” and not cancel or put on hold your YMCA membership. Should you choose to stay with us, while our fitness activities in our facility are temporarily suspended, we will treat your April membership draft and any subsequent drafts as a tax deductible, charitable donation to support all the necessary community work that your Y is currently engaged in. If you must place your membership draft on hold, you can do so by clicking here before March 27th. Additional information can be found on our website at – just click on the FAQ at the top of the page.

Maybe you are interested in doing more to partner with us? Should you like to make a donation to support our work in providing emergency child care to our community click here and then click our donation button.

Lastly, as a Y, we know that we are stronger when we work together through shared resources, talent and expertise. Our goal is to foster deeper and more significant relationships that result in how we can serve you better.

Thank you for your patience and partnership as we navigate through these unprecedented and difficult times. Be safe.

Ed Thomas, CEO

YMCA membership is not required for either, however, applicants who are members and have volunteered at the Y will receive additional consideration.
